Algorithmic / Generative Systems
The artist writes a system and the system produces the work. The idea dates to the 1960s, when the first programmers drew with plotters, and it reached maturity when algorithms moved on chain and each output became a permanent, ownable record. Most of this work turns on the same tension. Order on one side, randomness on the other, and the artist deciding how much of each.
